FAQ
Is it possible to access the property by car?
Grotte del Casale is in the heart of the Sassi di Matera, an area with limited traffic.
Depending on your arrival time, there are windows for access by car, but parking is not allowed.
For access, therefore, you’ll need to check the timetable and obey the illuminated signs at the entrance of the Sassi. In any case, we’re here to help you reach us and park your car.
Are there parking spaces nearby?
You can park just before the entrance to the Sassi from Via D’Addozio: look for a paid parking space with blue lines in the nearby streets.
You can then use the convenient EasyPark app to manage the start and end times of parking, or pay at the automatic machines in the streets (remember to enter the parking space number and your vehicle’s number plate).
Alternatively, the nearest staffed car park is in Piazza Cesare Firrao, 800 metres away (about 10 minutes’ walk).
Is there heating and cooling in the rooms?
Every room is fully equipped.
The heating and cooling system means you can enjoy the perfect temperature.
Is there a bathroom in the room?
Of course! All rooms have a private bathroom for exclusive use, with all the necessary amenities.
Is there a hairdryer in the room?
Of course! There’s a hairdryer in every room, along with everything else you may need.
Are animals allowed?
No, unfortunately animals are not allowed, not even small ones, to ensure healthy environments even for allergy sufferers.
Is it possible to add a cot in the room?
Yes, it is possible to request the addition of a cot.
Are there restaurants nearby?
Of course! Very close by in Via Fiorentini, Via Madonna delle Virtù and Via D’Addozio you’ll find numerous restaurants, pizzerias, bistros and bars where you can discover the many specialities of Basilicata cuisine!
And if you want to explore countless other sweet to savoury delicacies, from street food to fine dining, just go down to the lower part of the city, 600 metres away (on foot it’s a six-minute climb or staircase, but there’s a handy shuttle bus and numerous private vehicles).
How to get around in the Sassi and the city centre?
The Sassi and the historic centre below are both LTZs with restricted access hours.
The best advice is to park your car and move around on foot to enjoy the magic of this extraordinary place.
If you want to reach specific places quickly and avoid walking, you can use the public shuttle bus or the various private vehicles (taxi, Ape Calessino, private hire vehicles) or rent an electric bike or scooter from the various operators.
In any case, whatever your needs, you can always contact us and we’ll know how to best help you!
Is it possible to book a Sassi tour or other experiences?
We’re ready to help you make your stay unforgettable.
We can put you in touch with the best local tour operators for tours of the Sassi di Matera and the Regional Park of the Rock Churches of Matera.
But there are also tours outside the city, in Basilicata (Pietrapertosa, Castelmezzano and the Lucanian Dolomites, Craco, the Ionian coast etc) or in nearby Puglia (Alberobello, Castellana Grotte, Polignano etc).
We can also suggest the best activities to suit your tastes: trekking, horse riding, quad bikes, workshops, tuk-tuk tours, sightseeing bus tours etc. Just ask, and we’ll suggest the most suitable!
